High-performance linear Hall-effect sensor IC - MLX91377

Product description

The MLX91377 is a high-performance linear Hall-effect sensor IC designed to meet the requirements of demanding applications such as steering torque sensing and other safety-critical automotive or industrial systems.

The MLX91377 includes a Hall element, signal conditioner, digital signal processor, and a flexible output stage offering analog, SENT, or Short PWM Code (SPC) output. Multi-point magnetic field linearization and magnet drift compensation ensures high performance and accuracy at room temperature and throughout the operating range of -40 °C to 160°C. Robustness to external disturbances and transient voltages is confirmed by the wide absolute maximum ratings including a supply and output voltage range of -18 to 28V.

Modern safety-critical systems are adding more sensors to ensure safety and availability of operation in the event of a fault. Maintaining, or reducing, wire harness size and signal count is important to aid system packaging and is supported by the bus-capable SPC output. Multiple (up to four) sensor outputs can be connected to one signal wire with each IC transmitting its data when addressed. Additionally, all ICs on a bus can be triggered to perform a magnetic signal acquisition at the same time thereby allowing for zero latency between IC measurements.

ASIL Ready - Melexis

The MLX91377 is offered as an ASIL-C or ASIL-B SEooC (Safety Element out of Context - ISO 26262) component, depending on the output format. Contact Melexis to obtain a copy of the MLX91377 safety manual which details the relevant system integration requirements. On-board diagnostics monitor the internal state of the various blocks to ensure correct and safe operation. The two fully independent dies in the TSSOP-16 package ensure that one channel remains operational in the event of a fault condition.

The MLX91377 is automotive qualified to AEC Q-100 Grade 0 and available in a lead-free RoHS package. Programming of the IC is accomplished with the use of the PTC-04 programmer and the Hall-06 daughterboard.
