Far infrared thermal sensor array (32x24 RES) High SNR  -  MLX90642

Product description

The MLX90642 is a thermal imaging array featuring a 32x24 pixel matrix with a high Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR). This sensor provides a total of 768 Far-Infrared (FIR) pixels that translate into detailed thermal images, allowing for precise temperature mapping of the observed environment. Whether it's detecting subtle temperature variations in a complex industrial process or capturing the thermal profile of a room for occupancy monitoring, the MLX90642 delivers the necessary clarity.

To address the diverse needs of various applications, the sensor is offered with two distinct Field of View (FOV) options: 45°x35° and 110°x75°. This flexibility allows designers to select the optimal FOV for their specific use case.

A significant innovation within the MLX90642 is its onboard temperature calculation capability. This feature eliminates the requirement for an external microcontroller unit (MCU) for basic temperature matrix output, simplifying system design and reducing overall component costs.

The MLX90642 provides linearized Object Temperature (To), raw IR data, and Ambient Temperature (Ta) outputs. All of these data are stored within the device's internal RAM and is readily accessible through the industry-standard I2C interface, facilitating seamless integration with other system components.

Achieving a low Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD) of 65mK at a 2Hz refresh rate, the sensor ensures reliable performance even in challenging thermal environments. This sensitivity allows for the detection of subtle temperature variations, enabling applications such as early fire detection and precise thermal profiling.

The sensor utilizes a global shutter readout, ensuring that all pixels capture data simultaneously, minimizing motion artifacts and providing a consistent thermal image. Additionally, the refresh rate is configurable up to 16Hz, allowing for optimization based on the specific application requirements.
